On September 10th, 2022, Ubisoft finally revealed the next entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise, Assassin's Creed Mirage , a new action adventure game in the series which will reportedly be focused on stealth and parkour.
Assassin's Creed Mirage puts you into the shoes of Basim Ibn Ishq, a petty street thief who would go on to be recruited by the Hidden Ones, eventually developing into a master assassin. Basim made an appearance in the previous installment; Assassin's Creed Valhalla, however, this time around, the game is set in 9th century Baghdad, 20 years before the events of Valhalla.
Assassin's Creed Mirage is reportedly being developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux, who are designing the game as a take on the modern template of the original Assassin's Creed, primarily focusing on three main design pillars; stealth, parkour, and assassinations. The game has also been described as a return to the series' roots.
Unfortunately, no gameplay was shown during the event, with developers Ubisoft showcasing a CGI cinematic trailer, which primarily focused on the rise of Basim from a simple street thief, to a master assassin. Another notable ally that was shown in the trailer, was that of Roshan, a Persian assassin, who is voiced by none other than Emmy award - winning actor, Shohreh Aghdashaloo.

Assassin's Creed Mirage Trailer-
In the trailer, we see a transition of Basim's life before, and after he joins the Hidden Ones. Narrated by Roshan, the trailer kicks off by depicting a young Basim, trying to escape guards after attempting to rob someone, and later, as a master assassin, taking down corrupted individuals who are apparently a part of The Order. The trailer also features Basim training under Roshan on being recruited by her. Moreover, the trailer's ending remains shrouded in mystery. Basim is seen assassinating a corrupt man, and in the process of putting him to rest, he notices a strange figure, possibly a djinn, who are regarded as spirits in Islamic folklore.
The trailer also showcases the various tools that Basim will have at his disposal, including smoke bombs, poison mines, and of course, the Eagle, who will be able to assist the player in tracking enemies and other side activities.
i) Karkh - The industrial part of the city, which will also include the Bazaar.
ii) The Round City - The richest area in the City. This magnificent place includes the grand palace of the reigning Caliphate.
iii) Science district - As the name suggests, this place will house libraries, and universities, including the House of Wisdom.
iv) Trade district - A part of Baghdad that focuses on trade and commerce.
v) Military district - The military controls this district.
Unfortunately, players will not be able to explore Alamut, the famous hideout and headquarters of the Assassins. However, it is set to play a role in the story of Mirage.
Another thing to note is that Ubisoft are set to ditch the RPG genre for the time being, making Assassin's Creed Mirage similar to the first few Assassin's Creed games in terms of gameplay. However, they haven't completely abandoned it. Ubisoft also elaborated that a select few future titles will still incorporate the RPG structure of the modern Assassin's Creed games. Therefore, Mirage will contain linear mission chains, with a heavy focus on story, rather than non- linearity.
While Assassin's Creed Mirage is making a return to its roots, it has also introduced a few new mechanics and concepts. One of these is the Eagle Companion, which was first introduced in Assassin's Creed Origins, back in 2017. The eagle will allow players to tag enemies, particularly in restricted areas, as well as aiding in finding potential infiltration routes. But beware, as it is assumed that new archer enemies wil have the ability to shoot down your eagle mid air.
Basim will also have access to the "Assassin's Focus" an ability that allows him to slow down time, and perform multiple assassinations at once. This mechanic has been present in past video games as well, such as the Fear Multi- Takedown in Batman Arkham Knight.
When is the Assassin's Creed: Mirage game going to be released?
Assassin's Creed Mirage is set to be released in 2023 for the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Amazon Luna. No release date has been announced as of now. There are three editions available for pre - order. These are-
i) The 50$ standard edition, which includes the base game.
ii) The 60$ deluxe edition, which comes with additional content.
iii) The 150$ collector's case, which includes the deluxe addition, along with a 32cm statue of Basim, a replica of his brooch, the map, an art book, the soundtrack, and a steelbook.
